They're back with a vengeance

I think it’s fair to say that a lot of our readers are going to have some kind of relationship with Enter Shikari. For me, it’s back at Welly in Hull, where the small emo stage would play their tunes and a drunken crowd would fling their arms about singing every single word. Well, it looks like a re-visit to Welly is in order as Enter Shikari return, and if their new single is anything to go by, with a vengeance.

‘(pls) set me on fire’ opens under the most chaotic circumstances possible. We are firstly met with a four-piece harmony that Queen would be proud of, chanting “please set me on fire,” before the listener is ripped from that tranquillity and plunged into carnage. The instrumental that ushers us into the verse sounds like a space age fun fair where the staff are all on speed. It’s hard to find rhythm to it as vocals grab onto what they can to guide us through.

All of this chaos is standard for an Enter Shikari song by this point and works incredibly well when you view it as a whole. By welcoming listeners in a way that’s so hard to make heads or tails with, it makes it so that as the chorus comes in, it feels more euphoric and rewarding than ever. It’s a full throttle track with teeth kicking vigour that is sure to get any fan of the band excited for what’s to come.

The new album ‘A Kiss For The Whole World’ is set for release on the 21st April. It comes out following a rough time that the band had, as we all did, throughout 2020. Lead vocalist and keyboardist Rou Reynolds commented on this saying, “at the time it felt like we ourselves, as musicians, were experiencing the death of our band.”

That’s not the case though, far from it as alongside the new single and album announcement, Enter Shikari have confirmed they will also be doing a string of shows throughout the year that will see them travel all the way from Wolverhampton to Los Angeles.
