More about:

“The soundtrack to any early 2000’s chick flick movie,” is how Bronnie would describe herself to anyone who hasn’t already listened. Her music is a plethora of emotion, energy and swagger, bundled up into a package of pop rock, ready to be ripped open. She’ll be taking to the stage at CloseUp festival at Colours in Hoxton along with the likes of Phoebe Green, Chilli Jesson and Bandit.

“So excited to play alongside so many awesome bands,” she said, “London is always a special city to play.” CloseUp deserves a lot of credit for the quality of the line-up that it has put together, not just because of the fact the quality of the acts is fantastic, but there is a lot of diversity there. People attending can expect to hear music spanning a massive range of genres, but nothing screams live music more than the energy-filled, catchy and emotive music that Bronnie delivers.

This is hardly a surprise as live music is and always has been a massive part of her life. “I’ve played over 200 shows in 30 countries around the world,” she said, “playing live has always meant everything to me and always will. I just finished up some sold out headline shows in Manchester and Glasgow as well as a few days across Europe, I’m also playing a whole load of festivals over the summer including a big one that I’ve not yet announced.”

This love of live is reflected in every song and given so much time is spent perfecting the way it is perceived by a crowd, it’s hardly a surprise they capture a positive atmosphere so effectively. “I often play songs live for a year or more before I release them,” she said, “so I often have the live crowd in mind when I’m writing.”

The way that Bronnie sings is unique, she clearly has an understanding over the power that the voice can truly have. She has a lovely singing voice, but that sweetness of sound is not the only thing embodied in the music she makes, instead she laces lines with emotion, be it glee, envy or anger, really adding narrative to music in a way that not a lot of others can do.

“I notice it most at headline shows because obviously the fans know the songs and the lyrics, so I can hear them singing back the way I sing certain lyrics. When I get it right I certainly feel like we take the fans on an emotional journey through the gig.”

Bronnie will joining an eclectic roster of performers at CloseUp, one of the first festivals of the season and one which you shouldn’t miss. “I’m obviously stoked for Nels Hylton! He played me for the first time on the BBC Radio 1 Future Alternative Show, I had the honour of headlining his first ‘Upgrade’ gig nights in London and we’ve become good pals, so I’m very stoked for his DJ set and to see him. I’m also excited to catch Phoebe Green and Freya Beer.”
