Music for the masses, as it should be

The importance of live music is never something that can be understated. It’s something that we here at Gigwise dedicate a massive amount of our time to as we understand the memories it creates, the value it holds to both fans and artists, and also the integral part it plays in the music industry as a whole.

As such, it’s been a disappointment recently seeing the price that a lot of tickets to gigs have been going for. £200+ to see the likes of Taylor Swift and Harry Styles live is simply unreasonable and in times of such economic turmoil, as rent rises and the cost of living crisis continues to hit home, the idea of paying such an amount is ridiculous.

Granted, a lot of the time the prices of these tickets are out of the artists hands and it’s instead the distributors who charge for tickets. Still, regardless of who is at fault, barbaric ticket prices lead to a disconnect between artist and fan, driving a wedge in an art form that is supposed to be about community and togetherness.

Billy Lockett is a multi-platinum selling artist that has managed to rack up hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify and had his debut album ‘Abington Grove’ reach number 15 on the charts. Naturally, when so many people listen to your music, playing live follows shortly behind.

Billy was disappointed to find out that a lot of people would have to miss out on his live show given they simply couldn’t afford tickets, so in response, he has released low income tickets, in turn making his shows more accessible for everyone, regardless of the financial situation they might currently find themselves in.

In a statement, Billy said, “I actually can’t believe how many of you have bought tickets to come and see me on tour. I’m beyond excited to play some of the new tracks from the album along with some of the ‘Billy classics’. That said, I’ve been getting daily messages from people saying they would love to come but just can’t afford it. I know things have been pretty tough for a lot of you and I wanted to do something to help! I’ve spoken to my team and we have got an allocation of discount tickets for people that are really struggling. Hope this helps and can’t wait to sing with you all very soon! Love Billy.”
