A celebration womanhood

More about:

Madjo starts her brand new single in an incredibly minimalistic way. It’s simply acoustic plucking and the steady kicking of a bass drum, enough to make your head bounce as you wait for things to fill. The vocals by Madjo come in and their sweet sound paired with the stripped back nature of the instrumental means you hang on to every word of what is a rhythmic anthem dedicated to the sacred feminine.

After racking up millions of streams in the past few years and also with gleaming reviews from the likes of RocknFool, ELLE and Sens Critique, Madjo is proving herself to be a voice that needs to be heard, with the new single ‘Women’ only reaffirming that idea more. Listeners are invited into a ‘goddess circle’ as the rhythmic chanting of the chorus and naturistic emphasis on the overall sound design means the track comes off as positive and ritualistic, honouring strength, loss, beauty and womanhood throughout.

Madjo has confirmed that the inspiration for the track was Maya Angelou’s book ‘Letter To My Daughter’, which made Madjo want to not only celebrate women but speak about their differences, lineages and legacies. The song seems universal in its appeal, meaning it keeps itself open to people from different backgrounds all over the world.

This track is not only a celebration but it also highlights the writing ability of Madjo. There are massive fluctuations in the minimalist and maximalist nature of the tune as a stripped back verse leans into a jam-packed chorus. It all works incredibly well together, and these changes come in a way which is natural rather than shocking, as can often be the case.

‘Women’ is from the new album ‘Rebellion’, which is currently scheduled for release in 2024. Given the quality of the single, all we can do is wait in anticipation for the new record and more information on what Madjo will do next.
