Madonna has been excused from taking part in jury duty in New York after providing a doctor's note.
The singer was due to appear at the Manhattan Supreme Court yesterday (28 May), but was too unwell to attend.
New York County Clerk Norman Goodman has said that his office is currently sorting out Madonna's next date to appear as a member of the jury.
The exact reason for the singer's absence is unclear, but the New York Daily News website reports that she is not suffering from any serious illness.
The singer was well enough to post two tweets - both tributes to writer and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, who died yesterday.
I know why the caged bird sings! Maya Angelou lives on forever! #iconic #artforfreedom http://t.co/m8SbeBle3q

Madonna served on the jury once before in California, where she lived before moving to New York.
The singer announced in February that she is working on her new album, the follow-up to 2012's MDNA, which will feature collaborations from Avicii, Diplo, Toby Gad and more.
