Singer Bret Michaels was forced to end a US gig early last night (29 May, 2014) after a medical emergency left him unable to perform.
The former Poison star was reportedly forced to end the show due to problems related to his diabetes, which he has suffered with since a child. He is said to have quit the stage during a gig in Manchester, New Hampshire after just three songs after his blood sugar levels dropped to dangerously low levels.
Michael's guitarist Pete Evick stated on Facebook that the Poison star rushed from the stage during the gig. He later returned to the stage, only to tell his audience that he was unable to continue with the show. He also adds that Michaels "could barely speak, but begged me to apologize to the fans," when he saw him later on the band's tour bus.
Evick's message in full read:
"This is a message I never imagined I'd have to post. Tonight in Manchester, NH 3 songs into the set Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage. In the 9 years I've stood next to him, I've never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger. One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret's blood sugar was extremely low.
He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue. As you all know he is a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar, he basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions. When I rushed to the bus he could barley speak, but begged me to apologize to the fans and seemed only concerned for them.
As of now he is with paramedics being evaluated. We will keep you posted throughout the evening."
A message was later posted on Bret Michaels' Twitter page, thanking paramedics for their assistance, which read: "Sending a shout out 2 all the paramedics both on & off duty who assisted Bret tonight. No words can thank you enough for ur help - Team Bret."
