Below: 12 bands you have no plans to see at Reading + Leeds - but you should

  • Sivu: When you're done with the rock music, this enigmatic and melancholy new star will chill you out with his gloriously downbeat, intimate electronica. Life is all about light and shade, and Sivu will prove the perfect counterpoint to the balls-out rock of QOTSA and Blink 182.

  • The Sunshine Underground: Remember these guys? Once seen as a poor man's Muse, now back with a new sound - and better than ever. Having embarked on a new electronic path has given The Sunshine Underground a new lease of life, so much so, it feels like a whole new band.

  • M0: This Swedish pop powerhouse is perhaps one of the greatest new artists of the year. Having earned rave reviews for her debut album, No Mythologies To Follow, she has stunned audiences across the UK with her live shows for her performance and sheer star quality. She's cool as fuck as well. The sort of girl you want to go out and get hammered with.

  • Rufus: Likened to Cut Copy (and with good reason), Rufus specialise in sparkling, sun-drenched Australian pop sounds and have scored huge success in their homeland. Proof that pop music can be as credible, if not more so, than some of the rock artists on the line-up.

  • Drowners: After years of grafting, Arctic Monkeys are headlining this year's Reading & Leeds festival, and just starting out on the same journey are New York-based Drowners, who specialise in melodic, attitude driven rock. A band with a bright future, expect them to be snapping at the heels of the AM stars in years to come.

  • Dominique Young Unique: Having guested on DJ Fresh's Top Ten hit single 'Earthquake' and Le Youth's 'Dance With Me', this Florida-based rapper is making waves with her spitfire delivery and biting lyrics.

  • Twin Shadow: One of the most underrated popstars on the planet, Twin Shadow specialises in squealing, eighties guitar sounds and powerful, epic choruses that will bring joy to even the most hardened, hungover Reading and Leeds attendee. (Photo: Matthew B Thompson)

  • Raleigh Ritchie: A bright, shining hope for the UK's urban scene, Raleigh Ritchie is an explosive young star (he also stars in Game Of Thrones as Grey Worm), his snarling style of r&b is tough enough for Reading and Leeds but commercial enough to have set him on the road to mainstream stardom. He can more than hold his own with a rock crowd, and is an incredible live performer.

  • Schoolboy Q: The most hotly-tipped rap star of the year, and with good reason, Schoolboy Q is far from a run-of-the-mill mainstream rapper, with some of the most hardcore lyrics on the scene and some seriously sick beats.

  • Dirty Dike: One of the leading figures in UK hip hop, Dirty Dike is loud rude, offensive but at the same time, an all-round British chap. He belongs to High Focus records who have been putting some of the best hip hop in years. Edward Scissortounge and DJ Sammy B-Side will also be joining.

  • Kwabs: One of the most beautiful voices currently on the music scene, he could sing the alphabet and turn it into an amazing track. He also combines his smooth vocals with electronic elements including some stellar production from SOHN

  • The Newham Generals: Reading and Leeds have become very good at catering for grime fans with the likes of Meridian Dan on the line up for this year. The true fan however should know all about D Double E and Footsie who are The Newham Generals. Expect Streetfighter Riddim and some serious reloads.

  • Vic Mensa: Having recently appeared on Chance The Rappers's 'Acid Rap' and has been buzzed about since. His debut single is out this week, with an EP coming later. Catch this up and coming rapper at Reading/Leeds in the summer and you won't be sorry you missed it.

  • Crystal Seagulls: This four piece from London are on the brink of something big. Through sheer hard work, this lot have managed to get themselves to Isle of Wight Festival last year and now are heading to Reading and Leeds. Their ferocious and enigmatic sound will be sure to impress you.

  • Lxury: Signed to Disclosure's Imprint Method Records, Lxury is already establishing himself as one of the hottest things on the dance circuit at the moment.

  • Saint Raymond: Reading and Leeds do take place at the end of the summer but we've got our fingers crossed that the weather will still be good. What better way to enjoy the sun than with the summery, blissful tunes of Saint Raymond? He's bound to plaster a big grin on your face.

  • Brody Dalle: The former Distillers singer made a killer futuristic rock album early this year that you must buy if you haven't already. She's going to be playing Reading and Leeds this summer and will deliver a raucous set that will definitely give Blink 182 and Paramore a run for their money.

  • Rae Morris: Headlining the BBC Introducing stage is the amazing Rae Morris who makes nostalgiac, thought-provoking and earnest music which will certainly intrigue you.

  • Moko: Whilst you probably only know Moko as the girl who was on Chase and Status' smash-hit 'Count On Me' we can assure you that that's going to change. Her debut single "Your Love" has recently been unveiled and displays Moko's voice in all its alluring glory.
