Ramone, who was born Erdelyi Tamas in Hungary, was originally intended to be the band's manager, but when lead singer Joey discovered he couldn't keep up with the band's fast tempos, Tommy was drafted in.
Tommy drummed on The Ramones' first three albums before being replaced in 1978 by Marky Ramone. He continued to manage and produced the band for their fourth and eighth albums
Although they were not related, all members of the band adopted the surname Ramone. Tommy Ramone was the last surviving member of the original line-up.
