The Hives drew the biggest crowd of the day so far with an astounding performance at Reading Festival, following an epic performance from Peace on the main stage today (Saturday 23 August, 2014).
Singer Pelle Almqvist and his raw retro garage rock band were typically dressed in their white suits, piling emphasis on getting the crowd going.
"I'm telling you to get crazy, I don't want anyone to stay still" he enthused. Considering it was 4pm, the reaction was wild with people grabbing on to their every move. Hits 'Main Offender' and 'I Hate To Say I Told You So' from their album Your New Favourite Band gained the strongest reaction.
Almqvist could hardly stay on stage and repeatedly left to join the audience and thrill those at the very front. This was was a high energy, unabashed rock 'n' roll show from one of the most entertaining frontmen in the world. "I am your lover, I am your leader" he exclaimed and it is this sheer unrelenting self-confidence that makes them thrive.
Just before them, Peace lived up to the hype with 10-track set that will intensify the anticiation for their second album.
They have a penchant for combining virtuoso guitar music with elegant pop melodies that make them one of the bands destined for even greater stardom. "We'll be back soon maybe it will be night" said frontman Harry Koisser . There's little doubt he's wrong. A later slot alsomt certainly awaits.
