Reading Festival 2014 is drawing to an end, and has been given an epic send-off thanks to the likes of Jungle, Papa Roach, You Me At Six and many more throughout the day today (Sunday 24 August).
Jungle played a soul/funk set on the NME/ Radio One Stage to an audience who were in full swing, despite it being only early afternoon. The highlight arrived as they played an extended percussion section on their biggest hit to date, 'Busy Earnin'.
One of the biggest surprises of the day came courtesy of Papa Roach, who ignited the masses who gathered on the main stage with a huge, career-spanning set that took in the underrated breadth of their back catalogue. In full spirits, frontman Jacoby Shaddix inspired invaded the audience, inspired numerous circle pits, gave shout outs to the few in fancy dress and even paid tribute to Freddie Mercury and The Ramones. The most feral reactions were of course saved for 'Getting Away With Murder' and 'Last Resort'.
You Me At Six proved why they're worthy of the larger venues of their upcoming arena tour, while Sleeping With Sirens and A Day To Remember - with the latter surfing over the crowd in a huge zorb ball.
London leather-clad rockers The Bohicas played a set of high energy, innovative guitar music that deserved a much later slot than it got. Under 5,000 people were present to see what was most certainly one of the highlgihts of the festival so far.
Southhampton two-piece Dolomite Minor continued to propel the momentum of interest in duos that's engulfing the music industry, thanks to the likes of Drenge and Royal Blood making waves. Their sound touches on shades of Black Sabbath and vocally they evoke Alice In Chains. The potential is there for this two piece to have a long and lucrative music career.
Unsinged Manchester three-piece Man Made played on the BBC Introducing Stage to under 100 people, yet those who were lucky enough of have been there may have witnessed a band who are surely going to be remembered as one of the great Manchester bands and do justice as ambassadors of a city who have a legendary music alumni. Their quality came as soft vocal melodies intertwined with highly evocative Johnny Marr esque jangly guitar.
Meanwhile, Drowners attracted hoards of teenage girls who lined the front of the crowd to scream their adoration toward the Welsh frontman Mathew Hitt, whose model good-looks even caused a pink bra to be thrown on stage. Fortunately, the band aren't merely gaining popularity due to their image. They have catchy jump up indie songs in the vein of The Strokes and The Vaccines and are a new addition to the scene that shouldn't be ignored.
Reading Festival concludes this evening with Blink-182, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Disclosure, The 1975 and many more, while Leeds ends with Jake Bugg and Arctic Monkeys.
