Andre 3000 has revealed that Prince gave him a pep talk to overcome stage fright after Outkast's performance at Coachella Festival this year.
The rapper/actor, who will be seen shortly in the Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side, told the New York Times about his difficulties of performing live.
Benjamin revealed that the band's poorly received Coachella performance was watched by Prince (and Paul McCartney) standing side of stage. A few days later Benjamin received a personal call from Prince himself.
"It was my first time actually talking to Prince," said Andre 3000. "He said: 'When you come back, people want to be wowed. And what's the best way to wow people? Just give them the hits."
Prince also offered some advice on the set list for the reluctant performer. "I’m explaining to him that I really didn't want to do it. He said 'I've been there. I've tried to do other things. After you give them the hits, then you can do whatever'."
Prince's final piece of advice? According to Benjamin he said simply: “You’re a grown man. You’re either going to do it or you’re not."
