Idris Elba has announced mi Mandela, an album inspired by his experience playing Nelson Mandela in Long Walk To Freedom.
mi Mandela is an album that features a combination of South African musical talent as well as guest vocalists from James Blake, Maverick Sabre, Mr Hudson, George The Poet and Mumford & Sons. 'Tree' also features Atlanta's Cody ChesnuTT, the man behind 'The Seed' (appropriately enough).

Elba filmed the role during the summer of 2012 and into early 2013, where he received further exposure to the incredibly diverse music coming out of South Africa. “South Africa has numerous different tribes and each one has a musical expression, and each one has a very unique, different sound style. At the time I had my studio at the apartment I was staying in while I was making Mandela – a little keyboard, a laptop – and as an experiment to myself, I vowed to keep making music.”
The album was recorded in Johannesburg, London and Mali.
Elba also DJs and has released music under the name 'Dris'. He directed and starred in the music video for Mumford & Sons 'Lover Of The Light'.
mi Mandela will be released on 24 November on 7wallace /Parlophone.
