Tracey Emin will design the Brit Awards prizes handed out at the 2015 ceremony, following in the footsteps of Damien Hirst, Peter Blake, Philip Treacy and Vivienne Westwood.
Described to make the awards "highly desirable and collectable" (which no-one could argue with - least of all Ben Howard), Emin said of the commission.
“I was thrilled to be asked to rework the BRITs trophy," she said. "It's so nice as a visual artist to have an involvement with the creative side of the music industry and it's such a sweet celebration of the amazing talent we have in Britain today.”
Emin, who rose to notoriety with her provocative work in neon and sordid still lifes such a 'The Bed' has represented Britain at the Venice Biennale. Incidentally she has also held the role of British GQ's Feng Shui Editor for over a decade. Emin's latest collection The Last Great Adventure Is You is currently on display at White Cube gallery.
The Brit Awards will take place at London's O2 Arena on 25 February 2015 and will be broadcast live on ITV.
It will be the first Brits under the companies new chairman Max Lousada (Warner Music UK CEO) and will feature set designs by Es Devlin and Willo Perron who have between them worked with Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Coldplay.
There will also be a new host for 2015, following James Corden's departure having hosted the awards for the past four years. Nick Grimshaw is currently favourite to replace him.
