New figures from SoundScan have revealed that music download sales have fallen considerably compared to last year.
So far in 2014, 60 songs have reached the 1 million download mark, compared to 83 at this point last year. Even more worryingly, not one artist-album has reached the million-unit mark, compared to five last year.
As Billboard reports, Beyonce's self-titled album is the best-selling artist-album of the year with 776,000 downloads, followed by Lorde's Pure Heroine at 754,000. Strangely though, both of the biggest-selling albums so far this year were in fact released in 2013.
In terms of individual songs, Pharrell's 'Happy' is unsurprisingly the best-selling track of the year, followed not-so-closely by John Legend's 'All Of Me', which has nearly two million fewer downloads.
There is some good news though - vinyl sales are up 47.5% compared to last year, having sold 6.074 million units compared to 4.12 million.
