Taylor Swift tops Canadian charts with eight seconds of white noise

Well, at least it's better than Will.i.am

So Taylor Swift set the pop world ablaze this week with the release of her new single 'Welcome To New York'. However, it wasn't that which topped the charts in Canada, but eight seconds of white noise static from the star.

As The Independent reports, a 'glitch' saw iTunes release a song under the name of 'Track 3' from Swift's upcoming album, 1989. Fans eager for a premature taster of her new LP were quick to shell out the $1.29 CAD to download the track, only to discover that it was just a brief burst of static.

However, enough did so to send it straight to the No.1 spot in Canada. Oh well, it's probably better than anything Will.i.am or Pitbull could dream of releasing. That is not even a joke.

Taylor Swift and Apple are yet to comment on the incident, but we're sure that Simon Cowell is keen to cash in and is planning for one of his contestants to cover 'Track 3' on X Factor this week.

Swift's new album, 1989, is due for release on 27 October.
