Alvin Stardust, the man behind 'Ma Coo Ca Choo' and 'Jealous Mind', has died aged 72 after a short illness.
One of the most recognisable faces of 1970s rock, Stardust enjoyed over 25 years of chart success, beginning with with 'My Coo Ca Choo' in 1973. 'Jealous Mind' a year later gave him his first number one and signing to Stiff Records and Chrysalis ensured his continued musical evolution.

In all Stardust achieved nine top twenty singles and albums before making the move into musicals. For a generation of fans he will will also be remembered for a 1976 road safety video in which he said "you must be out of your tiny minds."
Stardust was set to release Alvin, his first album since 1984 on Conehead Records. It is described by the lavbel as "This is a collection reflecting a maturing performer, at home with the nuances of that remarkable voice. It’s a reflective, speculative and deeply personal album that beguiles with an open honesty that recalls the best of the singer-songwriter genre." Stardust said of the release "I love the darker, swampy blues edge that we have found. It's an exciting time. Who knows where it will lead? But it's the best time I've had in years and it's all for real”.
