Sinead 'O Connor has hit back at critics of Band Aid 30, telling everybody to "shut the fuck up".
The single, which has become the fastest selling of the year, has recieved a mixed response from social media and the press. Emeli Sande apologised for the dodgy lyrics, Lily Allen called it 'smug' and many have chosen to donate to the fight against Ebola rather than indulge it. Despite this, it has gone on to sell more than 312,000 units so far.
Now Sinead 'O Connor has stepped up to be the first, apart from Geldof to defend it. Talking to the Telegraph she took exception to the criticism.
“I think everyone should shut the fuck up," she said. "If you didn't like the lyrics you shouldn't have agreed to sing the song. I think it's smug of Lily Allen to say it's smug.”
She continued, “The assumption that anyone performing on the record has not privately given money is exactly that, an assumption.”
When asked about Damon Albarn's comments that it was a misguided effort, she added: “And who gives a fuck what Damon fucking Albarn thinks”.
Meanwhile it's been announced that Band Aid 30 could be recieving a David Guetta remix. Let's see how defensable the whole thing becomes then.
