Sleater-Kinney took part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything Q&A yesterday, which concluded with them sharing a new song, 'Surface Envy'. Listen to it below.
The band had been on indefinite hiatus since 2006, but recently used their career-spanning box set Start Again to announce that they're reforming, and releasing a new album.
One of the questions asked towards the end of the band's AMA was about the shorter new songs, and whether the album will have a similar guitar sound. They responded: "We are so glad to be back! The new songs ARE shorter. Wanna hear another one from the new album??", before posting a link to the Soundcloud stream of 'Surface Envy'.

Some of the other questions answered during their AMA included an explanaton from Janet Weiss for the lack of bass guitar in Sleater Kinney: "Funny thing but I don't really love low end. That big bass sound that hits you in your gut is unpleasant! Not having a bass allows for the drums to occupy an interesting space in the music, which I really love. Also, bass players often make those funny faces."
It also prompted insightful pearls of wisdom like this one: "I try to break the stereotype of what women are expected to be onstage. Our culture does not expect women to be physical and primitive and threatening. Those are traits more traditional for men. Until women are allowed to be heroic or scary, we will be less likely to gain true recognition for our art."
