Chris Martin has revealed that David Bowie turned down the chance to record a collaboration with Coldplay.
Speaking at the BBC Music Awards, where Bowie was nominated for British Album Of The Year (against Jungle, Royal Blood, Sam Smith and Elbow), Martin spoke of his huge admiration for the Thin White Duke, including his new material.
"When 'Where Are We Now?' came out I was staggered, and also annoyed," he said. "Like, 'Come on, it's not fair.' He's already got all these amazing songs and then this instant classic."
Martin then revealed his own attempt at getting Bowie on a Coldplay track. "One time I sent him a song to ask him to sing on it," he said. "He called me and said, 'It's not one of your best.' He's got very high standards and I appreciate that. It inspires the rest of us to keep our standards high."
Bowie was beaten to British Album Of The Year by Ed Sheeran's X. Read our full report on the night at Earls' Court here.
