The long-awaited biopic documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck is yet to include any footage of a Dave Grohl interview that was conducted.
Brett Morgen, director of the Frances Bean Cobain produced film said the shoot with Grohl was conducted too late and couldn't be included in the first print of the film that was premiered at Sundance this weekend. It may however feature in the HBO cut, which is set to air later in the year.
"We had a locked print and trying to re-edit a film with a new interview in 10 days is kind of difficult," said Morgen. "This is the picture I wanted - I didn’t want there to be a lot of people in the film. I hope we’ll see a version [with Grohl's interview] sometime."
Meanwhile the Sundance premiere of the film which took place over the weekend (25 January), revealed that Cobain's cover of the Beatles’ 'And I Love Her' does feature.
“It’s as intimate you can get,” Morgen said about the film. “People have projected fantasies on the limited amount of things that came out between 1991 and 1994 (from Cobain). I have a great degree of confidence the more you get to know him, the more you’ll love him.”
“I wasn’t crying because Kurt died,” he said.” I was crying because I wasn’t going to be able to spend time with him anymore. And for the last two years he’s been everything in my life.”
