A video has emerged of Damon Albarn singing ‘Mr Tembo’ for the real-life elephant that inspired the song. Watch the video below.

Appearing on his debut album Everyday Robots, ‘Mr Tembo’ tells the tale of an orphaned baby elephant the singer met while travelling in Tanzania.

Consequence Of Sound reports that Albarn recently returned to Tanzania to meet the elephant again. During their encounter, he serenaded him with the very song he inspired.

Albarn discussed his first meeting with Mr Tembo with NME last month, describing him as a “beautiful little fella.” Speaking about the moment he played the song on his ukulele, he said that the elephant “backed away and shat himself.”

In other news, the influential musician has reported that he and Jamie Hewlett will begin recording a new Gorillaz album in September.

The virtual band, a collaboration between Albarn and animator Jamie Hewlett, released their last album The Fall in 2011, but after Blur released their comeback record The Magic Whip earlier this year, the singer has said that he'll finally focus on Gorillaz again.
