Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong has hit out at the lack of rock bands at this year’s MTV VMAs.
The frontman unleashed his frustration on Twitter during the ceremony, which was hosted by Miley Cyrus in Los Angeles over the weekend.
He wrote, "Just watched VMAs. Seriously @MTV not a single young rock n roll band?" He went on to add, "There r great up and coming rock bands headlining festivals AND on social media. what thee hell?"

Armstrong spoke with Rolling Stone earlier in the year about Green Day’s new album, their 12th studio recording. Progress appears to be encouraging, but slow.
"There's definitely a great spirit going on," he said. "We've always been pretty charged up. Before we found any of this out, I had already written a few songs and everybody was really excited by them. And then we heard about [being inducted into the Rock And Roll] Hall Of Fame, and we were just blown away. Yeah, I mean, we're going to take our time."
This year's MTV VMAs hosted a number of talking points, such as Nicki Minaj calling out Miley Cyrus and Kanye's (tongue-in-cheek) announcement that he'll run for President in 2020. The White House and Justin Timberlake recently responded to Kanye's vow.
