Beats and Apple have confirmed they are developing a streaming service to take on Spotify, Rdio and Jay Z's new Tidal service.
Widely rumoured following the acquisition of Beats Music, the New York Times has finally confirmed the expected move that Apple wants to enter the streaming music sphere.
According to the Times: "The company is also planning an enhanced iTunes Radio that may be tailored to listeners in regional markets, and, if Apple gets what it wants, more splashy new albums that will be on iTunes before they are available anywhere else, according to people briefed on the company’s plans."
Prices have not been announced yet but reports have already circulated about Apple attempting to undercut Spotify per month. As a result as Business Insider reports, the company have now decided that it won't offer a lower subscription cost of $7.99 after being told they would have to absorb any the cost of anything below Spotify's current $9.99 monthly fee.
It would also appear that Nine Inch Nails icon Trent Reznor is said to be taking an active role in redesinging the iPhone app, putting to rest rumours that he would no longer be working with the brand.
Zane Lowe also recently joined Apple after leaving Radion One. Lowe said of his departure he has high hopes of bringing a more analogue approach to the digital age. “I really want a platform for the most passionate people who love music,” he says. “I want to be able to bring that human experience, that we all had growing up with record stores, but actually make it something you can listen to in a world where you’re left to your own devices.”
