Julian Casablancas has revealed he's set to record new material with The Strokes, and is also planning a duet with Savages' Jehnny Beth.
Casablancas has been touring with his side project The Voidz, and expressed hopes that his two bands could work in tandem in a new interview with Noisey. He also told the website that the Strokes members had recently reunited. "It's the first time we've been exclusively writing since Comedown Machine," he said. "We're planning on recording stuff. I still think we could do cool things and I'll do that. I'd like to do both really if I could."
Comedown Machine, The Strokes' fifth studio album, was released in 2013. The band decided to orchestrate a media blackout with the album - meaning they gave it no promotion in any form, including interviews, TV appearances, photos or tours.
As well as starting to record new music with the Strokes, Casablancas is also set to duet with Savages' Jehnny Beth on a forthcoming song. The pair became friends when Savages appeared alongside The Voidz at a string of South American festivals.
In the same interview, Casablancas discussed the ongoing race issues in America, the most recent example of which was the police shooting of unarmed black man Walter Scott: "Clearly we are far from racial equality and the justice system is far from colorblind. We see how far people have to be pushed to protest, which is a pity, but at least we see it happening, which is positive."
He continued, "Just a clear understanding of what's happening would be the biggest victory possible because the Matrix-like blindness in America is just sad and scary right now."
The band are also confirmed to perform at British Summer Time in Hyde Park this summer with Beck and Future Islands. See below for tickets and details.
