Prince has released a lyric video for the his 'Baltimore' track that followed the death of Freddie Gray and subsequent upheaval both inside and outside the town. Watch the video below.
The video aims to highlight both sides of the media depiction of the incident. The American people outside of Baltimore were only receiving photographs and footage fed through a single news agency. The new lyric video purposefully showcases scenes of communities at peace.
The song features guest vocals from Eryn Allen Key and was released back in May as a part of The Purple One's contribution to the Rally 4 Peace concert.
Speaking of how the song came about, Prince had a vision for the song to address "the unrest in Baltimore and the socio/political issues around the country in the wake of a slew of killings of young black men."
The Ralston Smith directed video fades out with a quote from Prince himself reading: “The system is broken. It’s going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life…”
