This July, the Grateful Dead will be playing three sold-out nights at Chicago’s Soldier Field, and the farewell concerts will be broadcast live in select theaters across the country.
The band’s ‘Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead’ shows will be a reunion of Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir. As Billboard reports, the shows will be screened live on July 3, 4, and 5, with the five-hour showings beginning at 8pm EDT/7pm CDT/6pm MDT/5pm PDT.
Fathom Events, which is distributing the concert in association with Peter Shapiro and Madison House, is putting tickets on sale on May 4. Local theaters will determine ticket prices.
John Rubey, CEO of Fathom Events says of the screenings: “What Fathom and the cinemas offer is a feeling of community, shared interest and energy. This is a trans-generational event.”
Ahead of the Chicago shows, the Grateful Dead are also expected to play a Jerry Garcia tribute show at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
