Michael Shannon, known best as Nelson Van Alden in HBO's Boardwark Empire and General Zod in Superman, is set to perform The Smiths' The Queen Is Dead in Illinois.
The line-up comprises of a number of Chicago musicians including Dag Juhlin (The Slugs), Jason Narducy (Bob Mould), Curt Morrison (Tributosaurus) and Gerald Dowd (Robbie Fulks). They will play The Smiths' 1986 classic LP (as well as other Smiths songs) at Evanston Space in Illinois on 6 June. Tickets are available now.
Shannons' musical escapades have been ongoing alongside his successful acting career. He fronts the band Corporal who released their self-titled debut album in 2010.

In other cinema and Smiths news, fans can expect to see the groups' legendary guitarist Johnny Marr turning his hands to the silver screen in the near future. He told BBC 6Music that he has "an idea for a screenplay" and that he's involved with a separate film project.
