The Libertines have announced that Jake Gosling, the man behind Ed Sheeran and One Direction's albums, will be producing their new record.
The band split in 2004, but reunited last year for a series of reunion shows. Though it was originally thought to be a temporary reunion, it's proven to be more than that, and the band are working on their first album in over a decade.
Speaking to NME of their decision to hire Jake Gosling as producer, Carl Barat explained, "We had wish lists flying back and forth, from the Leckies through to the Epworths and Stephen Street."
He continued, "What it boiled down to was that we wanted to try something a bit new with someone who is a bit new. We wanted someone who is getting their thing going, rather than someone who is just going to put us through their machine. This isn't a heritage band making a heritage album."
Gosling, who has won a Grammy and been nominated for two Brits, has previously mainly worked with pop musicians such as Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Paloma Faith and Christina Perri. He is also a songwriter and has his own recording studioo, Sticky Studios, in Surrey.
Speaking of the general spirits of the band, Barat said, "The feeling's great, we've been sparking. The pistons are all firing. I'm genuinely excited, and can't wait to get this stuff out there. We've all been waiting to write this record for ages."
Meanwhile, the band have a packed festival schedule ahead of them this summerincluding headlining Reading & Leeds Festival. For tickets and more information, click here.
