While discussing his new film Jimi: All Is By My Side, Andre 3000 from Outkast has revealed he would like to be played on screen by Leonardo DiCaprio.
At a screening of the film, according to Rolling Stone, if the band were to make their own biopic. "It would be great to make an Outkast movie right now, but instead of really serious, make it a full comedy — like Kevin Hart would play Big Boi". When questioned who should play the other half of Outkast Benjamin replied "We should cast somebody stupid — like Leonardo [DiCaprio]."
Benjamin also opened up on what makes his hip-hop duo so special. "The chemistry that made Outkast was the balance....And honestly, Big's a much sharper rapper than I am. If I was going to a battle, I'd definitely bet on him instead of me."
Benjamin has discussed the difficulties he faced with the role. He told Shortlist earlier this month about the difficulties of playing left handed. “It was very hard. It’s almost the same as walking backwards,” said André, who explained that the initial idea of the crew was to film the actor playing right-handed, and then flip the image. “But that meant we were going to have to change everything in the scene, which was really expensive. We got this information just a couple of days before I was supposed to go and shoot it.”
Andre 3000 also explained recently that Prince gave him a pep talk to overcome stage fright after Outkast's performance at Coachella Festival this year. Benjamin told the New York Times that a few days after the festival Benjamin received a personal call from Prince himself.
"It was my first time actually talking to Prince," said Andre 3000. "He said: 'When you come back, people want to be wowed. And what's the best way to wow people? Just give them the hits." Prince also offered some advice on the set list for the reluctant performer. "I’m explaining to him that I really didn't want to do it. He said 'I've been there. I've tried to do other things. After you give them the hits, then you can do whatever'."
