Wolf Parade are arguably one of the more interesting bands, sonically, to burst out of the Montreal music scene in the last few years. With band members participating in side projects such as Handsome Furs and Sunset Rubdown, it’s impressive that they can still find the time to get together and tour as Wolf Parade.
When Wolf Parade eventually took the stage the crowd was more than ready for them. Opening the show with 'You Are A Runner And I Am My Fathers Son' they proved themselves to be a band with infinite amounts of energy right from the start. Their set was spread evenly over both albums, but songs like, 'Shine A Light', 'Dear Sons And Daughters Of Hungry Ghosts' and 'This Heart’s On Fire' from their debut, were clearly strong crowd-pleasers. Midway through the show people were dancing like mad and with a surprising but healthy sized mosh-pit forming, Wolf Parade were delivering one hell of a show.
The set took more of a mellow turn to give some time to the new album with, 'Language City', 'California Dreamer' and 'The Grey Estates' all making appearances. They expressed nerves at playing such a big show in New York but were clearly being made very comfortable by such a doting crowd. The band finished with 'Kissing The Beehive' and with just about every body part and surface available, the audience made as much noise as they could to bring them back out. With the first few encoring chords of their most popular song, 'I’ll Believe In Anything' sending people into a frenzy, Terminal 5 became a place of jaunty guitar parts, sharp synths and a crazy crowd. Let’s just hope the next night was a repeat performance.
