Mumford and Sons much mocked 'rock' direction has been savaged in the most amusing way possible by 6 Music Host Shaun Keaveny. Listen to it below.
Safe in the knowledge that the band member he was about to lampoon was "still asleep on bed of a hundred pound notes" 6 Music's breakfast DJ Shaun Keaveny parodied Marcus Mumford's to spectacular effect.
Posing as the frontman himself he launched into a diatribe: "Hi. It’s me. Once had a band member called Winston. Yes we wore waistcoats. Our houses had big moats. I like to eat sticky buns, it’s Marcus from Mumford and Sons. Look I know what you’re thinking - that band are totally doily. Absolute finger buffet. Total Habitat. I know where you’re coming from. And yes the photos of us wearing our dad’s leather jackets from the Eigthies with the collars up haven’t convinced you either. But please believe me, we Mumford and Sons, rock."
"I know we sound like an artisan butchers in a twee Cotswolds village. Yes I know our last two albums were about as rock as paper and scissors. But this one: whoosh! Yeah! The schizzle is dark man. If it was weather, it would be drizzle or light hail stone."
"It sounds like the kind of album Chris Martin would write after a really bad argument with his Mum about Christmas arrangements. Darker than that. Think Athlete with a bit of Pat Benatar, you’re close. Hell this music journalism is hard! I guess I should leave it up to the experts or failing that BBC 6 Music’s Matt Everit. He’ll do. Hey roadie be a love and pass me that mandolin will you? Costing me three grand a week that 'smashing up Mandolin habit'. I’m Marcus Mumford, ladies and gentlemen. And I rock. I wear Drakkar Noir. Ugh!”
