Today’s Google Doodle is a rather cool interactive mini game, which follows a cartoon version of the composer Ludwig van Beethoven, as he desperately struggles to get to a concert on time in order to conduct one of his greatest works, the Ninth Symphony.

On the way to the concert venue, Beethoven suffers several hilarious mishaps, including falling on his face, losing his music to a hungry horse and falling into the river Rhine.

During the game, the user has to help Beethoven piece together his hopelessly scattered sheet music.

The Google Doodles team have covered plenty of famous composers in the past, including Claude Debussy.

The game was designed for Google by Leon Hong in collaboration with artist Nate Swinehart and engineers Jonathan Shneier and Jordan Thompson.

On the Google Doodles blog, the team explained why they made the mini game today:

"It's unclear when Beethoven was actually born, but 17 December marks the 245th anniversary of his baptism.

"Today provided us a rare opportunity to construct a game in step with beautiful music, whose evocative moods, drama, lightness and depth made conjuring visuals to match it rollickingly fun.

"Here's to one of history's greatest artists, and to hoping that, wherever you happen to be traveling this holiday, your life's work isn't eaten by a horse."
