More about:

Cool? Moi? Not really. Not compared to French alt-rock outfit Film Noir, anyway. The five-piece - fronted by Joséphine de la Baume - released the exceedingly stylish EP Tendrement in June and we're spooning it in by the dollopful.

The twenty-minute EP - the title of which translates to 'Dearly' in English - travels through a world of shoegaze, garage and dream pop like a French spectre on a pilgrimage through some of alt-rock's most striking moments.

Brooding on 'Hustling His Way', post-punk on 'Los Angeles Whirl' and remarkably like The Kills on single 'Chateau D'Eau', the quintet tighten their influences into one cogent piece on Tendrement.

British and American references are all over the EP, and so are French fingerprints. But whose? We asked Film Noir to put us together a playlist of some of the best French indie. Serge Gainsbourg makes an appearance, bien sûr, but dive in to find other gems, like the stalking smokiness of Parisian quartet Juniore and the psych disco of La Femme.

Tune in:
