If you're in the mood for something totally different, and totally amazing, then you need to check out The Cambodian Space Project, a band with one of the most unique sounds we've heard in quite some time. Listen to their new track, 'Here Comes The Rain', below on Gigwise first.
With soulful, jazz and motown influences, 'Here Comes The Rain' is an uplifting, infectious track, sung in both Cambodian and English, which brims with energy and showcases the deeply distinctive Cambodian music scene at its very best. Much of the band's power and personality comes from frontwoman Srey, whose heavily accented voice brings huge charm to the band's sound, but whose story adds much colour - and political power to the band and their music.
A Good Will Ambassador for UN Women's UNiTE and a political rights activist in her homeland, speaking out at SISHA events (Anti-Human Trafficking and Exploitation Organisation), the singer narrowly escaped a sex-trafficking ring after being kidnapped as a teenager. It's a shocking story, but one which has very clearly influenced her lyrics and passion for her art.

'Here Comes The Rain' is taken from The Cambodian Space Project's new album, Whiskey Cambodia, which is released on 14 July 2014.
