Saint Etienne were one of the finest bands of the nineties. Hugely distinctive, important and influential, the band soundtracked many an awkward first date during the Britpop era with their sweet pop sounds, and just about every young male in the UK had a MASSIVE crush on frontwoman, Sarah Cracknell.
The trio (Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs) scored unforgettable hits during their career, such as 'You're In A Bad Way', 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart', 'He's On The Phone', 'People Get Real', 'Sylvie' and many more. Play these records to adults of a certain age, and you are guaranteed to lose them in a wave of emotion and nostalgia.
To mark their 25 year anniversary, the band have recently released a collection of rare and unseen photos from their career, feature the trio in various stages throughout their quarter-century in music. Like the band's music, the images of the band are unmistakably Saint Etienne and inherently British. From soggy fields (shooting the front cover of their debut album, Foxbase Alpha) to the British seaside, the book is a visual reminder of why Saint Etienne were, and remain, a hugely important British band.
And yes, we still fancy Sarah Cracknell.
