Vibe out with the debut Gigwise mix by GotSome

Ahead of festival season, check out the Bristol duo's exclusive set

Gigwise Mix Series launches with GotSome Photo: Press

Having already worked with Wiley and appeared on the BBC's brilliant Diplo & Friends, we are honoured to present the debut Gigwise mix from Bristol bass specialists GotSome. Listen to it in full below.

Ahead of a busy festival season - including playing at Disclosure's WildLife Festival and Love Saves The Day in Bristol - Alex Holmes and Adam Gorsky have carefully curated a wide ranging set including a number of exclusives. "It's the mix that you put on as you get out the shower, drink in hand, whilst you're getting ready for a big night out" explains Adam. Listen to the mix in full below and then read on for the pair's thoughts on Kendrick Lamar, the end of piano house and why Annie Mac is the right choice to replace Zane Lowe.

Listen to GotSome's Gigwise Mix below.

Gigwise: Who is the best live dance act you've ever seen?
Alex: No contest: Daft Punk at Wireless 2007 with the full pyramid AV show. That was just the most epic set I think I've ever seen. The way they blended their hits together and teased hooks was masterful.
Adam: I'd throw Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx into the pot. They both put on incredible live shows - Chemical Brothers with their AV videos, and Basement Jaxx with their carnival dancers and singers. I don't think I've ever seen so many people having that much fun on stage!

What small festival has really impressed you?
Alex: The last two years of Love Saves the Day in Bristol were phenomenal. They managed to squeeze a load of different sized stages and styles into a small park in the centre of Bristol, and even with some pretty bad weather on certain days, the atmosphere was still amazing.

What was the last gig that stood out for you?
Adam: I went to see D'Angelo and The Vanguard and it was pretty special. He's like the new Prince. He came on playing guitar, then started singing, and finished with just him on stage playing keys. All the women in the audience were melting like butter on toast.

What hip-hop album are you looking forward to most in 2015?
Adam: Probably Kendrick Lamar's new album Untitled. It feels like he's taking a new direction in the way he's delivering his vocals, with a more thoughtful spoken-word style that reminds us of Mos Def and Common.
Alex: Also, the arrangement and production on that 'i' track is proper next level, with some really unexpected and interesting turns and progressions.

When was the last time you cleared a dancefloor and what was the tune?
Adam: I can't remember the tune, but years ago when I was playing some student dives I may have purposefully played an overly aggressive dubstep tune to clear the dancefloor so I could go home early!

What musical trend needs to end in 2015?
Adam: Country-EDM. That's just two genres that should never meet. Ever!
Alex: And maybe piano house. Don't get me wrong, I like a good Nineties-style summer banger, but they're all starting to blend into one.

Which club has surprised you recently?
Adam: I was really impressed with Canal Mills in Leeds. Everyone is just up for a massive party and there's a big student population up there. Leeds feels like the Bristol of the North! It's actually an old mill with a big room and great sound system, and feels like a proper sweaty warehouse rave.

How do you feel about Annie Mac taking over from Zane Lowe?
Alex: It's really positive. Zane Lowe has done an amazing job, but it will be interesting to see what Annie brings to the table. With the current state of the UK scene, it makes sense to have someone with more experience in electronic music, but hopefully Annie will show her more eclectic side and mix it up a bit.
Adam: We love Annie. She's been really supportive of the project so far and I think we get on really well. Can't wait for her festival in Malta!

What's next for GotSome?
Our single GotSome featuring Wiley 'Vibe Out' is out now on MTA Records. We've also got another track called 'Just A Feeling' coming out on Defected on the 13 April.
Adam: We'll mostly be splitting our time between writing new material in the studio and playing a load of big gigs over the summer such as Disclosure and Rudimental's new Wildlife festival in Brighton, We Are FSTVL in Essex, Love Saves the Day in Bristol and a load more.
