Tigercub have stood as one of the brightest prospects in Brighton's buzzing band scene since their official formation in 2013. But I caught them back in 2010 at The Prince Albert while they were stydying at Sussex University and finding their feet by keeping things very low key - there were about 15 people there. Even back then you could tell they were going places with their Mars Volta Nirvana crossover sound. They were one of the best band's I'd ever seen and they'd only just started playing together.

Come 2013, they'd honed their sound and put out that hit, 'Little Rope', which was their first single of note. Tom Robinson played it on Radio 6 Music and without evening clocking it was them, I remeber thinking this is great, a bit Queens Of The Stone Age, but still very unique.

Bit by bit they've made steady but assured progress, heading off on tour with Royal Blood was a major step out of the shadows and into the forefront of the music industry. As was their EP Repressed Semantics that received critical acclaim from NME, Clash, and BBC Radio 1 .

Now, they're a headline propsition with a debut album on its way. The highly-anticipated release is called Abstract Figures In The Dark and it was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Alex Newport (At The Drive In, Death Cab for Cutie, Melvins, Pissed Jeans) at Brighton Electric Studios and mastered by John Greenham (Death Grips, Weaves). A mighty proposition.

We have first dibs on this visceral yet melodic future hit 'Omen' that's taken from it. Watch it below.

Of the lyrical theme and music video concept Tigercub wrote us an exclusive note.

"This song is half biographical and half bile. Mostly I can't express my emotions properly and just keep everything inside. It’s partly cause having to deal with other people is usually harder work than dealing with the thing you’re trying to figure out in the first place, so this song starts out introverted as almost an inner monologue and then just ends up boiling over and drowning in its own bitterness toward the world. I feel like right now we've all inherited a future that's already been burned to the ground. Our generation are like the poor fuckers who have to clean up everything after a music festival. There’s nothing left for us here but piss stains and sleeping bags full of diahorrea...

"For this music video we used subliminal messaging to try and convey the lyrics in this video, lyrically this song takes a while to unpack and digest so we wanted to try and implant the themes and images in people minds. We wanted to give fans a taste of our the sort live show we're working on for our headliner in November, we just shot this in three takes and filled a rehearsal room full of smoke and just generally fucked up the footage afterwards, it's raw and shot straight from the hip, as part of a series of live performance videos shot by No Tape Inside.”

Isn't this rock music done ridiculously well. Hats off to them. Let's hope they crack America.
