Temples have revealed the video for ‘Strange Or Be Forgotten’ whilst offering a cryptic - or should that be “confusing” - analysis of its contents. The video is the latest track to be taken from chisel-cheeked neo-psychedelicists’ forthcoming second album, Volcano, which is due for release on March 3.
Frontman James Bashaw, sounding as if he’s been breathing in volcano fumes himself, says of the video: “Expression comes in many forms, and capturing expression is as important as the expression itself. Whether something is ordinary or extraordinary! Embracing an expressive output is what ‘Strange Or Be Forgotten’ delves into.”
Riiiight… Umm. Sorry?
Bassist Tom Walmsley takes up the slack: “Art is always on trial, so we wanted to interrogate some of the finest performing artists around. Playing the role of society, despondent and disinterested, we try and capture the uncapturable - the human spirit.”
Luckily video director James Beale is on hand with something we can all understand: “At its core, this video is about being comfortable and confident in yourself, no matter who or what that is. I think we have moved into an age when people are genuinely worried whether they are kooky or different enough to fit in. Shock value seems to be at an all time high, be strange or be forgotten.
“I wanted to cut through that and find a number of diverse people whose emotions manifest physically through some kind of performance. So we found eight characters and asked them to come perform their own personal act. Some of them had a particular skill, others were just being themselves and I wanted to capture natural real characters. It’s brilliant to be different if that is who you are, you should embrace it, but it’s not all that matters. Hopefully this shows that in some way.”
And who can disagree with that? You can judge for yourself by checking it the video here:
