Montage Of Heck director Brett Morgen has taken to Twitter to clarify a series of rumours about the film, notably the level of control exercised by Courtney Love and the absence of Dave Grohl from the documentary.
One of the most striking music documentaries of recent times, Montage Of Heck has made headlines worldwide. However Morgen has now taken to Twitter to confirm some of the key issues. Firstly the notable absence of Cobain's Nirvana bandmate and close friend Dave Grohl: "We first approached Dave about an interview in April 2014," Morgen explains. "Dave did sit for an interview three weeks after I completed the film. He was great. But unfortunately, it was too late for inclusion."
Morgen also cites Grohl as one of the key figures in making the documentary happen. "The film could not have been made without the support of Dave, Krist, Wendy, Don, Kim, Courtney, or Frances. Everyone came together." He also claims Frances Bean Cobain's involvement was the 'breakthrough' the project needed to get off the ground and the reason Don Cobain (Kurt's father) agreed to take part.
Morgen also addressed the issue of whether Courtney Love had some sort of approval over the film. Morgen insists that this "Courtney didn't see the film until the week of the premiere and never saw a frame prior to that" he explained. "There is not a single edit in this film that was dictated by a family member, studio, or network."
Morgen also took the time to confirm details about the forthcoming soundtrack release. "The soundtrack will not feature any Nirvana music. It's all Kurt. A few unreleased tracks from the film, the rest have never been heard."
There are other details - animation by hand, no animals were harmed, the fact that Morgen has been working on this film since 2013 - which you can find on Morgen's Twitter.
