Adele performed the third of eight nights at London's O2 Arena last night, and partway through the show, broke the news that she's headlining Glastonbury.
After orchestrating a mass 'Happy Birthday' singalong to XL Recordings boss Richard Russell, the singer announced that she had a present for him, in the form of an announcement. "Who's going to Glastonbury this year?" she asked. "See you there. I'll be there. I'll be headlining on the Saturday night this year."
She later added, "I've had to keep that secret for fucking years." Addressing those who might be critical of the decision, she said, "For anyone who's gonna kick off and say I'm fucking boring, you're more fucking boring for moaning about me headlining."
The news comes despite Adele's repeated insistence that she would never play the festival. Speaking to London's Capital Breakfast Show last year, she said, "I think I've made myself pretty clear on Glastonbury. The crowds are just too big - I don't know if I could do it."
Muse and Coldplay had already been announced to headline the festival, which takes place between 22 and 26 June.
In other Glastonbury news, they recently announced that the legendary John Peel Tent will be moved, and when tickets will go on re-sale.
