Blitz Kids have announced that they have split up - telling their fans 'it's time to take our leave'. Read their full statement below.
The band were gearing up for more tour dates, and recently told Gigwise that they were working on new material. However, it seems that it wasn't meant to be - with the band cancelling upcoming gigs and calling it quits.
No reason for their split has been given, but the band have bid their fans an emotional farewell.
Blitz Kids full statement is:
"I don’t want to talk in clichés or metaphor, so I’m just going to come straight out with it. It is with heavy hearts but heads held high that we must announce it is time for us to take our leave.
"We have always said that we are friends, first and foremost, before a band. And it is as friends that we have reached this decision to end this incredible adventure that we started 8 years ago. Between then and now, this band has taken us to beautiful places that we’d never have experienced without it, and introduced us to people who we consider family and friends for life.
"We’ve worked with some amazingly passionate and extremely tolerant people during our time as a band. They showed faith in us when we doubted ourselves, and gave us a chance when we perhaps didn’t deserve one. We are eternally indebted to every single one of you.
"But none of what we have achieved together would have been possible without you, the fans. We’ve gone from playing to the sound guy and his mates at pubs in Nantwich, to going on tour with our favourite bands, and stepping out on festival stages that we only dreamed of playing as kids growing up. You have taken us on the journey of a lifetime, and we will always love you.
"We’re sorry, but the upcoming tour has been cancelled, and tickets will be refunded. We will be playing some farewell shows that will be announced soon. We hope to see you there to celebrate what have surely been the best years of our lives.
"So long, and thanks for all the beers.
"Never die.
"Jono, Joe, Nic and Matt."
Speaking to Gigwise about the future just back in May, frontman Joe James said: "We've been working on it for a while but we've also been touring relentlessly for two years so we're gonna have some time off to chill at home, let the creative juices flow and write as and when it comes to us, we’re not rushing it but we don’t want to wait too long and be forgotten."
"We're trying to strip it back for this album in terms of production, we got a little carried away in the studio last time, we are focused more on songs this time rather than just adding crazy layers on top of it."
He added: "We're hoping to get something out at the end of this year, whether it's a single or an EP, then hopefully drop the album early 2016."
Blitz Kids formed in 2006 before releasing two albums - Vagrants & Vagabonds in 2011 and The Good Youth in 2014,.
