Will Young has hit out at Kanye West in a new interview, saying, "He's awful. What does he stand for? His arrogance completely over-runs him as a musician."
The latest in a long line of musicians and celebrities to criticise the rapper, who headlined Glastonbury last month and is known for his unapologetic self-confidence (and brilliant music), Young made the remarks in an interview for the BBC's five favourite albums feature.
After waxing lyrical about The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Terence Trent D'Arby, Lauryn Hill and Emiliana Torrini, Young was then asked for his least favourite album. His answer? "Anything by Kanye West."
He elaborated, "I was at Glastonbury and I refused to see him. He's awful. What does he stand for? His arrogance completely over-runs him as a musician. He's so audacious and opulent."
Young added, "It shows the worst of people who have loads of money. Massive weddings, opulent engagements. Who is this man? And why do we laud these people? I'm not interested in arrogance. It's just a cover. Get rid of the arrogance and show me the frailty. I won't listen to his music."
Team Kanye has just as many supporters though. A recent video shows fellow Chicago rapper Chance the Rapper losing his mind over a shout-out from his hero.
