Joanna Newsom has announced her first album in five years, and shared a new song and video, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Watch it below.
The singer released her third album, Have One On Me, back in 2010. Since then, aside from performing a few new songs live in 2012, including ones tentatively titled 'The Diver's Wife' and 'Look And Despair', she hadn't released any new music.
Now though, it it looks as though 'The Diver's Wife' was the launching pad for a fourth album, details of which she has finally revealed. It's called Divers, and will be released via Drag City in October.
She's also revealed the first single from the album, 'Sapokanikan'. Its accompanying video was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed Boogie Nights, Punk-Drunk Love and There Will Be Blood, and with whom Newsom recently worked on the film adaptation of Thomas Pynchon novel Inherent Vice.

A beautifully vague statement on the label's website reads, "...further along and down the road apiece from where she took her leave of us, Joanna Newsom plays on. Breathe deep and equalize your today-ears to the new world of Divers..."
Divers is set for release on 23 October. See the full tracklist below.
