He'd also rather 'toss off a frog' than make love to Carl

In one of his most candid interviews to date, Pete Doherty has admitted that he'd love to 'tie up journalist' and 'burn all tabloid newspapers in a huge bonfire', if he got the chance.

The Libertines are currently gearing up to release their long-awaited third album, Anthems For Doomed Youth - after massive headline slots at Reading & Leeds Festival this weekend.

The band are back on fine form, so let's just hope that's what the media focusses on this weekend - as it looks like Doherty is sick and tired of being tabloid fodder.

"The tabloids can fucking kiss it, man," Doherty told Time Out magazine this week. "As soon as I get 12 No 1.s I'll buy them out and have a huge bonfire. All the fucking journalists will be tied up, gagged and bound in flammable gaffer tape."

He continued: "All the people saying, 'Pete Doherty put on weight', they'll see! I'll lose a stone as the sweat pours from me while their carcasses go up in flames. The squeals of their last breaths."

Carl Barat then calmy reassured any terrified hacks out there: "It's been a long day."

Responding to accusations that their comeback was contrived and on stage chemistry is choreographed, Doherty replied: "We're being asked to analyse the changes and the differences, just to placate the naysayers," he said. "I'm scared to share a microphone with him now because people say it's a gimmick. Sometimes I do rush over [to the mic], but that's only because after you have had a few drinks and smoked a certain amount you get that really nice smell on your breath."

And now, our favourite quote: "You know, like when your lover has got that winey, smoky taste. Not that Carl's my lover... I'd rather toss off a frog."

The Libertines will release Anthems For Doomed Youth on 11 September, following a 'week of shenanigans' in London for fans

This weekend sees the band headline Reading & Leeds festival across August Bank Holiday weekend, and will also see performances from Metallica, Mumford & Sons, Jamie T, Limp Bizkit, Royal Blood, Kendrick Lamar, Alt-J and many more.
