Journey are in the running for a well-deserved induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The bands they are competing with include Yes, Pearl Jam and Depeche Mode. Inductees will be announced in December 2016, with the induction ceremony taking place in April 2017.

Jonathan Cain who takes on keyboard duties for Journey has been quoted as saying that he hopes former band frontman Steve Perry will join them on stage for the couple of live songs the band will be expected to perform, if they are selected for the Hall of Fame.

Perry left the band in 1998 and yet the door has it seems always been open to him to re-join them at anytime.

"The door's always been open for him to join us any time he wanted. I mean, that has to happen. That band has to play. They have to play their music - two songs and I think we get to do two or three. That's how it works." He said.

However Cain has hit back at the HOF committee as they have excluded current Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda from the induction offer. He says the band will lobby for Arnel’s inclusion, as he is a part of the band now.

Deep Purple had a similar situation in relation to their line-up previously and battled the HOF over it.

Journey were formed in San Francisco in 1973 and were on the progressive rock route for a while. They progressed to become an iconic rock act and one that is still a viable chart-topper today.

Their most recognisable song is ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ which never seems to lose its appeal and received a boost with its inclusion on the soundtrack of hit film ‘Rock of Ages’ starring Tom Cruise.

The band minus Perry are still touring and releasing new material.

With over 90 million album sales, multiple awards, record-breaking live shows and much more to their name Journey must be one of the top names to get this well-deserved accolade.

The Journey lineup up for induction includes Jonathan Cain, Aynsley Dunbar, Steve Perry, Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Steve Smith and Ross Valory.

If Perry does step up to the mic on the night, it would be wonderful to see him  and Pineda share the vocals on a few of the bands classic rock hits.
