Prior to Tool's only performance of 2015, frontman Maynard James Keenan has revealed some ugly truths about the way he feels about his band and their fans.
The prog-rock quartet are due to headline the Monster Mash Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona. This is not any indicator of their fifth album arriving any time soon, however, as exciting as this is for Tool fans, frontman Maynard James Keenan isn't as stoked.
Speaking to The Phoenix New Times, David Accomazzo grilled Keenan on mainly Tool-centred topics which apparently struck the wrong chord with the vocalist: "But as with any time he’s asked about Tool, his answers quickly become curt,” Accomazzo mentions in the story: “A hint of exasperation creeps into his voice and he exhales heavily through his nose."
When asked about the underlying humour found in Tool's music, Keenan responded with some very uncourteous things about his fans: "It’s lost. Insufferable people … It’s just ridiculous, retards. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up". Treat them mean, keep them keen.
He also admittedly that he was 'conned' into playing the show with the rest of the band. He had no desire to talk about the new Tool album, but lots of time to rattle on about his lucrative wine business, apparently.

Earlier this year, we we gifted a ray of hope surrounding the release of Tool's long awaited fifth album, currently unnamed. It's been nearly a decade since the release of 10,000 Days and the Tool fans are getting impatient.
The band have been in the studio for a while now, that we know, but last June saw an update on the band's website that read 'wait for it'.
