Everything we know about Kanye West and Drake's joint album

The pair dropped the strongest hint so far in Toronto last night

Well, it’s official. Almost. Kanye West and Drake are almost definitely releasing a collaborative album together. Because they’re ‘Real Friends’. (See what we did there?) The famous pair, who have a collective net worth of about twelve zillion dollars, teased a joint album last night in Toronto.

Here’s everything we know about it.

They first hinted at the album a year ago

Though they’ve both been busy working on their own albums - Kanye on what he eventually named The Life Of Pablo, and Drake on Views - it seems they’ve been scheming about this album for over a year. Back in 2015, Kanye told the Breakfast Club that he was hoping to release a collaborative album with his Canadian peer. At that point in time, he said their efforts had only been performed live, “without a proper CDQ” - presumably one year on, things have progressed.

Drake then teased something back in April

Speaking of his potential project with "one of my favourite people... in the world", Drake said a few months ago, "We'll just sit and collaborate. We have a few things that we’ve worked on. It’s all about finding a place for it." He then added, “I hope we get more music out. We were supposed to do a mixtape together, an album together... You never know, he'll call me tonight and say, 'I'm putting these two songs out tonight'." Please do that Kanye.

Then, Kanye dropped the heaviest hint of a collaborative album in Toronto last night

“Y’all ready for this album?” West asked the crowd in Toronto yesterday after joining Drake onstage for two songs. “I wasn’t talking about Pablo,” he quickly clarified. “I wasn’t talking about Views. I want to ask you right now, ya’ll ready for this album?” Unsurprisingly, the crowd went mad.

Which Drake then reiterated

"What my brother was asking before was, are you ready if we make an album?" he asked. "That's what he was asking." Though that could potentially mean they haven’t even started making it yet, we suspect that’s not the case. Particularly given that it’s been over a year since rumblings first began.

Kanye West’s Twitter tirade against the “Tidal Apple beef” might have been related to the album’s release

Remember last week when Kanye went off about how the rivalry between streaming services TIDAL and Apple was “fucking up the music game”? It looks likely that this was related to his venture with Drake. After all, West released his album on TIDAl, while Drake released his on Apple - so perhaps their album’s release has been stalled by the fact it can’t go up on both. “Fuck all this dick swinging contest,” he said. “We all got be dead in 100 Years. Let the kids have the music.” Preach.

Kanye and Drake have a working history together

Kanye directed Drake’s ‘Best I Ever Had’ video, produced ‘Find Your Love’ and recruited him for the remix of ‘All Of The Lights’. Then, Drake appeared on two tracks on The Life Of Pablo - ’30 Hours’ and Father Stretch My Hands’.
