Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess and New York composer Peter Gordon have unveiled a brand new video to a song called 'Begin', which is taken from their collaborative album Same Language, Different Worlds. You can watch it below.
The colourful lyric video features bold lo-fi shapes that move in tandem with the sound. The lyrics move down the page like the end credits to a film. Meanwhile, there's a Japanese translation for every line - handy if that's your first language.
The song is a summery laid back slice of jazzy electronica, combining the use of live instruments with electronic sounds. The soundscape is awash with electronic beats, brass, synth, and guitar, which all sit sumptuously underneath Burgess' huge dream pop vocal.
Tim Burgess first met Peter Gordon in New York in 2012 and they decided to collaborate. In September this year, the fruits of this will be fully presented on the album Same Language, Different Worlds - out via Burgess' own label O Genesis. The album was produced in New York by Gordon with Ernie Brooks, Peter Zummo, Mustafa Ahmed and Nik Void also contributing to the album.

“What I love about working with Peter is that in the late ’70s with Peter Zummo and Arthur Russell and all the New York cats at The Kitchen they were all making futuristic records,” says Burgess. “Now Peter in his mid-60s is still looking to do that. It’s the world that I want to be in.”
The duo will be doing a brief tour of the UK in September, which includes an appearance at this year’s Festival No. 6 in Portmeirion where Burgess has his own stage named Tim Peaks. Details below.
1 September – Hare & Hounds, Birmingham
2 September – Gorilla, Manchester
3 September – Festival No. 6, Portmeirion
4 September – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
6 September – Kamio Club, London
