Justin Bieber has compared himself to the late singer Amy Winehouse in a new interview on the isolating nature of fame - a time when everything from your hair to your height is scrutinised.
The 'What Do You Mean' singer is on the cover of this week's NME, and in in the interview, he opened up about the time in his life when he was "rebelling against everybody and everything."
As well as several viral displays of general rudeness and arrogance during his time growing up in the public eye, Bieber has also had a few run-ins with the law. He was accused o reckless driving in 2012, and charged with vandalism in 2013. Then, in 2014, is was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with an expired license.
Speaking to NME, Bieber said, "I just want people to know I’m human. I’m struggling just to get through the days. I think a lot of people are. You get lonely, you know, when you’re on the road."
He continued, "People see the glam and the amazing stuff, but they don’t know the other side. This life can rip you apart. I watched the Amy Winehouse documentary on the plane and I had tears in my eyes because I could see what the media was doing to her, how they were treating her.
"People thought it was funny to poke her when she was at rock bottom, to keep pushing her down until she had no more of herself. And that’s what they were trying to do to me."
