University Challenge is all about the nation’s finest minds battling it out to exhibit their academic prowess. But knowledge took a backseat in the BBC’s latest episode of the long-running show. Cue contestant Oscar Powell and his arsenal of hilarious facial expressions when facing the music round – earning his status as an overnight Twitter sensation.
Powell, a Cambridge University student, could evidently not contain himself when the teams had to guess the intro of Je T’aime by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin.

The music plays and Powell soon invites the viewer on a side-splitting rollercoaster of emotions. He first reacts with a gasp of utter shock, transforming into a puzzled scratch of the head and culminating with a ponderous stroke of the chin. What a guy.

Adding to Powell’s excitement, his team comfortably strode to victory – securing a place in the next round. He’s even become aware of his newfound fame. And guess what? He doesn’t mind. In fact, he’s proud of being odd. We salute you, Oscar Powell.
